DANIEL LAHAV
RPT, CSCS, B.Sc, B.Ed
Daniel has been a registered physiotherapist since 2002, receiving his B.Sc in Physiotherapy at the Hogeschool Van Amsterdam in the Netherlands. In 2015, he was certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NCSA). His primary focus is musculoskeletal and orthopaedic injuries.
My passion for the musculoskeletal system began in the 1990’s in massage therapy school. I realized immediately that my commitment to studying the human condition would be lifelong. And in pursuit of answers to life’s existential questions, I have come to realize that the most important thing we can do for ourselves is focus on our health and wellbeing (physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational).
I’m pleased to offer my clients a holistic approach to rehabilitation that incorporates more traditional physiotherapy with other health and fitness modalities such as strength training, conditioning and even breathwork.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
I became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist to fill a gap in the therapy world that needed to be filled. Weight training is one of the best ways to improve and maintain one’s physical health. And yet this type of training is less commonly used in a physiotherapy setting.
As both a physiotherapist and strength coach, I’m able to design more optimal rehabilitation programs for my clients that incorporate exercises that go beyond basic mobility and strength to build a stronger and more resilient body. This is ideal for those transitioning from rehab back into sports and recreational activities.
DISCOVERING BREATHWORK
Optimal breathing is an essential part of our health and wellbeing yet there is no emphasis placed on this tool when it comes to healing and rehab. Manipulating the breath in specific ways can improve a variety of mechanical and physiological conditions as well as have a positive effect on our overall health.
Not only has breathwork been scientifically validated, it has been such a game changer to my own personal health. So much so that I felt compelled to integrate these techniques into my professional practice. I now offer breath workshops for both individuals and groups.
MY MARTIAL ARTS JOURNEY
I’ve been practicing martial arts since the age of 16, when I started training Krav Maga, an Israeli martial art that I ended up teaching for 23 years. During the course of my journey, I dabbled in Dutch kickboxing, Aikido, and boxing, eventually settling into a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practice that I continue to enjoy today.
Through these many years of martial arts training and the inevitable injuries that I have sustained, I have gained a much deeper understanding of biomechanics and movement. These practices have also afforded me much personal growth as well as greater depth and compassion as a human, ultimately contributing to my evolution as a therapist.
